Senomyx uses HEK-293 (human embryonic kidney cells from the 293rd batch). Senomyx develops patented flavor enhancers by using ‘proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems.’ HEK-293 originally came from healthly electively aborted baby whos cells were harvested abd cloned.
By a Dutch scientist Dr. Van der Eb in the 1970s. Senomyxs salt taste, savory flavor, and sweet flavors, as well as other enhancers are purposefully developed so that they simulate your taste buds without actually tasting anything.
Much like MSG these flavor enhancers operate in the neurological level to produce the reactions. And since they are not actually ingredients but rather ‘enhancers’ they are not required to be listed in a packages ingredients except as “artificial flavors”
And because very small amounts of additives are used…..senomyx’s chemicals have not undergone FDA’s usual safety approved process for food additives.
The end goal of each program is to patent, recieve GRAS status, and obtain exclusive partnership licensing agreements with international food processing companies to use these “flavor enchancers” in their products.
